The One With The Missing Built-In

It’s funny to see what people will leave behind and take when they move out of a home. Even though we moved into our house last April, I still crack up over the items that were left and taken by the previous homeowners. Sure, it’s normal to take your fridge, washer and dryer – but ceiling fans and closet organizers? Seriously - the closets in the guest bedrooms have no shelves or hanging rods inside. What’s even funnier is that the same people who took faceplates off the electrical outlets decided it was okay to leave behind the chandelier, a pot rack (which is awesome) and framed photos of their children in the garage. Go figure.

Out of all the items taken/left, the only one that really bothered us was the hole that was left behind when they removed the built-in media cabinet from the living room.

{Now you see it}

{Now you don’t}

So for the last 9 months, we’ve had this space filled with 2 old side tables that held the cable box, DVD player, Xbox system and Wii system. Obviously- it was a really classy set-up that I never took a picture of. ;)

Although, we did live like this for several months before the TV was on the wall - another classy arrangement.

Finally, after months of looking online and scoping Kobey’s for a cabinet that would fit this space and hide all our crap, we actually found the perfect thing at Ikea. (Usually we would think Ikea is for college students, but you gotta love the fact that we could custom design this cabinet to fit our wants/needs!) So, after 2 trips to Ikea and numerous picture-only instructions, our media cabinet is now complete and we're definitely taking it with us the next time we move!

One house project done .... about 20 more to go!
